About this extension

Translate text in Chrome without breaking your browsing flow. ShiftShift Translator Extension opens a focused translation panel where you can paste text, choose source and target languages, see live results after a short pause, and copy the finished translation when you need it. This translator is built for quick text work, not for replacing an entire website or document editor. It is useful when you are reading an article, checking a message, comparing wording in another language, or preparing a short reply and want the answer inside the browser overlay. ⚔ Live text translation starts after you stop typing, so quick edits do not spam the translation service. šŸŒ Automatic language detection helps when you do not know the source language. šŸ” Source and target language selectors let you reverse a language pair with the swap button. šŸ“‹ One-click copy sends the translated text to your clipboard for reuse in email, chat, notes, or documents. šŸ”Ž Provider status shows whether the result came through Google Translate or the MyMemory fallback. 🧮 Character counters make it easier to see the size of the original text and the translated result. Common ways to use this Chrome translator: šŸŽ“ Students can translate passages from articles, lessons, and study notes while keeping the current page open. šŸ’¼ Professionals can understand short business messages, product descriptions, and support replies in another language. 🧳 Travelers can prepare phrases or read booking details before a trip. šŸ’» Developers can read comments, issue text, and documentation snippets without opening a separate translation tab. It also fits repeat workflows: paste a phrase, adjust the language pair, compare the output, copy it, and return to the original page without searching for a separate translator tab. The interface stays intentionally simple. One text area is for the source text, one is for the translation, and the language controls stay above them. The extension supports 30+ translation languages in the translator itself and uses ShiftShift interface localization separately, so the app can feel familiar even when you translate between different languages. Open ShiftShift Translator from the ShiftShift command palette in three ways: press Shift twice, use Cmd+Shift+P on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Linux, or click the extension icon in the browser toolbar. The command palette supports search, keyboard navigation with arrow keys, Enter to open a tool, Esc to go back, sorting by frequency or alphabetically, theme settings, and interface language settings. ShiftShift may show recommendations for other useful extensions in the command palette. Recommendations are part of the ShiftShift ecosystem and can help you discover related tools; you can ignore or dismiss recommendations that are not relevant to your workflow. Privacy and limits: translation requires a network request to external translation services because the extension does not run a full translation engine offline. The extension sends the text needed for the translation request to Google Translate first and uses MyMemory as a fallback when needed. ShiftShift Translator does not keep a local translation history and does not require an account or personal API key. External providers may have their own availability limits and policies, so avoid sending highly sensitive text. Install ShiftShift Translator Extension in Chrome and keep a fast text translator one command away whenever multilingual content appears in your browser.
